Verify the source
Tap the App Store / Play Store link on this page and confirm the operator name, the version number and the developer match the official site. If anything differs, the install is wrong.
Check device compatibility
iOS 16 or Android 10 is the floor for most cricket apps. The compatibility list on this page lists the handsets the desk has tested cleanly and the ones known to fail on first install.
Install via official store
Do not sideload. The sideload path requires a developer-options toggle and an APK from a non-store source; the desk does not recommend it.
Skip the in-app upsell
Most cricket apps push an “upgrade to premium” card on first launch. The desk recommends skipping it for the first session and revisiting after the second match.
Verify the scoreboard refresh
A clean install refreshes the live scoreboard within the first over. If the scoreboard doesn’t refresh inside two minutes, the install is wrong.
Three checks before you trust an install.
The App Store and the Play Store are not infallible. Imposter apps do slip through. The desk treats the install as a verification job, not a click-through. Before you trust the install, confirm three things: the developer name matches the operator’s official site (not just the operator name), the version number matches the operator’s verification page, and the file size on the store matches the operator’s published installer size. If any of these three things don’t match, the install is wrong and the desk has published a warning.
Developer name
Match the developer name on the store listing to the developer name on the operator’s verification page. A name like “Sports Live” for a real operator is a red flag.
Version number
The version number on the store listing and the operator’s verification page should match. A version-number mismatch means an out-of-date or wrong installer.
File size
The published file size should match. A file-size mismatch means the wrong installer is being offered.
Mid-range Android passes. Old iPhones sometimes don’t.
The compatibility list on this desk covers the handsets the editorial team has tested cleanly. Mid-range Android handsets from the last three years pass on first install. iPhones from iOS 16 onwards pass. Old iPhones (anything pre-iPhone 8) and old Android handsets (anything pre-Android 8) will struggle; the desk recommends upgrading before the next season if you can.
The update cycle matters too. The major cricket apps release updates monthly, with a hot-fix path for scoreboard bugs. The desk publishes the latest version number and a note when a hot-fix has been released.

Is the App Store listing the safest path?
Yes — for iOS the App Store is the only legitimate path. For Android, the Play Store is the safest, and the APK download page covers the rest.
Do I need to install a separate scoreboard app?
No — the scoreboard lives inside the official cricket apps. The desk covers two scoreboard-only apps (free, no login) for users who want a lighter install.
What about iPad?
iPad installs follow the same path as iPhone. The desk tests iPad-specific layouts against the iOS 16+ base.
Are all these apps free?
Yes — free on the App Store and the Play Store. In-app purchases exist for premium features, and the desk publishes a note where the in-app upsell is unusually aggressive.

App reviews on the App Store and the Play Store are user-generated and notoriously noisy — a one-star review from a user who tapped the wrong button sits next to a five-star review from the user’s cousin. The editorial desk doesn’t rely on app reviews as a primary signal. The desk runs its own test bench, its own network conditions, and its own measurement of the scoreboard refresh time. The app-store rating is a secondary signal, not the headline.
The headline signal on the desk’s review is the scoreboard. If the scoreboard refreshes within sixty seconds during play and within thirty seconds at every wicket or boundary, the app passes the scoreboard signal. If the scoreboard stalls on a wicket for two minutes, the app fails — and the desk publishes the failure with the timestamp, the network condition, and the device name on the methodology page.
The second signal is the captain matrix refresh. The desk measures how fast the captain matrix refreshes after the team-sheet release, on each of the six devices. A captain matrix that refreshes within an hour of the team-sheet release is acceptable; one that lags past ninety minutes is a fail — because the user has locked a lineup before the matrix caught up.
The third signal is sign-in. The desk measures sign-in reliability on first attempt, without a code, on each of the six devices. A sign-in that completes within ten seconds on a mid-range Android is acceptable; one that fails on first attempt and requires an OTP is a partial fail — the desk publishes the partial fail with the details.
These three signals together cover ninety percent of what a user will notice in the first month. The remaining ten percent — the in-app upsell timing, the customer-care response time, the KYC review — lives on the operator page and on the methodology page. The desk publishes the full methodology once per season.
The role of the developer signature in the install.
Every Android installer is signed by a developer certificate. The signature proves that the file was published by the developer named in the certificate — not by a third party. The Android operating system verifies the signature on install and on every launch.
The signature is the user’s last line of defence against a phishing installer. A file signed by the operator’s official certificate is legitimate; a file signed by an unknown certificate is not. The desk publishes the operator’s expected certificate name on the operator page.
The user can verify the certificate in the install flow. Android shows the certificate name in the install permission prompt, alongside the permissions the app is requesting. A user who sees an unexpected certificate name should stop the install and contact the operator’s customer-care channel.
iOS installers use a different signing model (Apple’s certificate, not the operator’s), but the principle is the same: a file signed by Apple’s store pipeline is legitimate; a file signed outside the pipeline is not. iOS sideloading requires the device to be jailbroken, which the desk does not recommend.
